The AKU global network of libraries supports students and faculty in their study, teaching, and research needs. Collections include books, journals, educational reports, audio/visual aids, and digital media. We also provide access to online journals, eBooks, and other resources.

Job Summary

As lead of the Digital Scholarship Centre, the job holder will spearhead the implementation of digital media services, champion new media technologies, and oversee production of multimedia resources for AKU faculty, students, and staff; and directly support the university's teaching, learning, and research mission.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end operations of the Digital Scholarship Centre and drive initiatives that support its growth, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

  • Lead the archiving and preservation of Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.

  • Provide ICT support for digital research tools, library technologies and information systems including RFID and the Library Management System.

  • Support the integration and application of emerging media technologies in teaching, learning, and research.

  • Maintain and administer the AKU Library’s electronic databases, ensuring their accuracy, accessibility, and currency.

  • Design and produce professional graphic design, branding, and publicity materials for AKU publications, events, and marketing campaigns.

  • Update and maintain the institutional digital repository in East Africa, intranet pages, and the web portals for AKU libraries in East Africa.

  • Develop and maintain LibGuides, online learning resources, and digital courses in support of academic programmes.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Information Systems or a related field, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Multimedia Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a busy academic institution.

  • Proven experience in managing a digital repository and/or institutional archive, preferably via Digital Commons.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing online courses and e-learning content, with proficiency in graphic design and web development tools.

  • Hands-on experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms.

  • Proficiency in emerging technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital innovation.

  • Demonstrated expertise in scholarly communication and research support services.

  • Experience in developing library guides, subject guides, and other research support resources.

  • Expertise in both macOS and Windows operating systems.
