About the Role

Citi is looking for an experienced Credit Underwriting Manager to join its Institutional Credit Management (ICM) team, a first line of defense function built to deliver integrated, end-to-end credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring for wholesale institutional clients across Corporate Banking, Services, and Markets. In this senior role, you will lead a team of credit analysts, own a multi-country corporate credit portfolio, and serve as a key decision-maker and partner across Banking, Risk, and regulatory stakeholders. This is an opportunity to shape credit outcomes at scale and contribute to Citi's continued investment in strengthening its credit risk governance framework.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end credit underwriting for a portfolio of institutional corporate clients — from initial origination discussions through the preparation and presentation of credit approval memos at senior approval forums.
  • Review and provide sign-off on financial analysis, due diligence, projection modeling, stress testing, and risk ratings prepared by a team of credit analysts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with credit standards.
  • Monitor a multi-country corporate credit portfolio on a continuous basis, overseeing timely production of annual and quarterly reviews and clearly articulating credit recommendations to Risk in both written and verbal form.
  • Partner with Front Office teams on structuring new transactions and negotiating legal documentation, bringing credit expertise to bear from early deal stages through to execution.
  • Assess risk and return trade-offs associated with complex financing structures and capital markets products, providing balanced and well-reasoned recommendations that reflect macro and regulatory considerations.
  • Lead credit discussions with internal and external auditors, serving as the primary point of contact for credit-related queries within the coverage portfolio.
  • Manage, develop, and mentor a team of 9–12 credit analysts — tracking workload, resolving capacity bottlenecks, leading recruitment, and actively supporting individual growth and team capability.
  • Build and sustain strong working relationships with Banking, Risk, regulatory bodies, and internal control functions including Internal Audit, ensuring seamless collaboration across organizational boundaries.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 7 or more years of credit risk or credit-related experience within banking or financial services, with demonstrated expertise in corporate credit analysis, credit underwriting, and portfolio management.
  • Ability to independently assess complex credit situations — identifying risk, structuring solutions, and communicating recommendations with clarity and conviction under time pressure.
  • Skilled in financial spreading, projection modeling, stress testing, and the preparation of credit memos, with a strong command of industry and market analysis.
  • Familiarity with capital markets products and complex financing structures, with the ability to evaluate risk asset allocation and risk capital implications in partnership with Banking and product teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with regulators, internal audit, and fundamental credit risk functions, as well as external auditors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present credit assessments clearly to varied audiences — from analysts to senior leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited university.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Direct exposure to global credit risk management standards and cross-border portfolio management across multiple countries or regions.
  • Experience leading or significantly contributing to recruitment and onboarding processes within a credit or risk function.

  • A hybrid working model offering 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, supporting flexibility alongside team collaboration.
