Job Description
naThe Technical Product Owner (Data) is responsible for the end-to-end ownership and delivery of data products that enable meaningful business value. This role requires a technically strong and delivery-focused individual who can translate business needs into scalable, high-quality data solutions while ensuring delivery teams are positioned for success.Operating at the intersection of business, data and technology, the role plays a key part in strengthening OMIG’s data capabilities and enabling more informed decision-making across the organisation.
What You’ll Be Trusted With
Product Delivery & Value Creation
- Own the delivery of data products, ensuring solutions are aligned to business objectives and delivered with quality, accuracy, and completeness.
- Translate business needs into structured, data-driven user stories with clear acceptance criteria and measurable outcomes.
- Ensure delivery outputs are aligned to business intent and support positive stakeholder experiences.
Backlog Excellence & Team Enablement
- Maintain a high-quality, prioritised, and delivery-ready backlog.
- Ensure delivery teams are set up for success through clear requirements, refined stories, and proactive removal of ambiguity.
- Work closely with engineering, data, and business teams to enable effective collaboration and delivery alignment.
Data Analysis & Technical Delivery
- Perform hands-on data analysis using SQL to support story mapping, feature refinement, and validation of requirements.
- Work directly with data to resolve ambiguity, improve clarity, and support robust decision-making.
- Contribute to scalable and forward-looking data solutions that enhance the organisation’s data capabilities.
Data Governance & Quality Assurance
- Embed data governance principles within delivery processes, including data quality, lineage, and ownership standards.
- Validate data logic and outputs throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure integrity and consistency.
- Support the implementation of best practices in data management and governance.
Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with business and technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities and delivery outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement in backlog quality, refinement practices, and delivery effectiveness.
- Contribute to a collaborative and high-performing delivery environment.
Who you are
You are a technically capable and analytically minded professional who enjoys solving complex data challenges and enabling teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
You bring:
- A relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
- 5–8 years’ experience in a Product Owner, Technical Business Analyst, or data-focused delivery role.
- Proven experience owning and managing backlogs within Agile delivery environments.
- Strong SQL expertise, including the ability to write and interpret complex queries and independently interrogate data.
- Experience working with data warehouses, analytical platforms, and data transformation processes.
- Practical understanding of data governance principles, including data quality, lineage, and ownership.
- Experience working closely with engineering and data teams in delivery-focused environments.
- Exposure to tools and technologies such as Python, Apache Airflow, dbt, Spark, Databricks, or Git-based workflows would be advantageous.
- Experience within financial services or investment management would be beneficial.
