About the Role

Hardware Reliability Engineer (Starshield)

Starshield leverages SpaceX’s Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts.

While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is built specifically for government applications, with an initial focus on:

  • Earth observation

  • Communications

  • Hosted payloads

Role Overview

As a Hardware Reliability Engineer, you will investigate, analyze, and track the reliability of hardware within the Starshield satellite constellation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working cross-functionally with design, production, and operations engineers

  • Responding to on-orbit data

  • Conducting failure investigations and performing data analysis

  • Determining root causes for on-orbit hardware anomalies

  • Creating comprehensive monitoring systems to ensure fleet health

  • Providing data-driven insights to proactively improve design and production reliability

Your work will span the full scale of satellite engineering — from understanding the detailed physics of failure in a single component to evaluating failure implications for the entire constellation and influencing future design decisions.
