Role and responsibilities

The position plays a key role in ensuring that PfV services are timely, accountable, inclusive, and in line with NRC’s standards and humanitarian principles and is responsible for leading, supervising, and supporting the implementation of NRC’s Protection from Violence activities Roles and responsibilities
Generic Responsibilities
Line management of Field office -level Protection staff
Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
Contribute to Protection strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs/gaps
Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Protection projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from the Protection Coordinator Programme Manager in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
Provide regular progress reports to the Area Programme Manager
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and assess new and better ways to assist
Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
Specific responsibilities:
Ensure the implementation of protection from violent activities, including appropriate and timely spending plans for activities to achieve programme goals, grants reporting contributions, target tracking, procurement, use and distribution of supplies and resources.
Work closely with the Information Management (PIM) Coordinator and MEAL Team to update Protection databases and information management systems; ensure that supervised staff are using protection databases and information management systems
Directly manage and provide technical guidance and support to field office -level protection staff, ensuring that protection activities are implemented according to donor requirements.
Create and execute area-level implementation plans, spending plans and procurement plans to ensure that project/programme deadlines are met and targets achieved.
Undertake field visits to monitor the quality of implementation of protection activities.
Ensure that protection monitoring data is collected and correctly entered, and support in the analysis of protection monitoring data.
Support donor reporting by providing accurate and timely input on project progress according to contractual reporting requirements.
Develop and strengthen relationships with relevant area-level stakeholders, including government entities, UN agencies and local/international NGOs.
Represent NRC at the area level in protection cluster and sub-cluster coordination fora.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships, including service as referral focal points, with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers, and maintain up-to-date service map and agreed referral protocols with partnering agencies.
Manage individual protection cases, including maintaining strict protocols for confidentiality and consent.
Perform other duties, as needed or requested by the supervisor and technical leads

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.
A university degree in a relevant field
At least 3 years’ experience and technical expertise in protection programming.
Experiences in protection risk-based programming
Good knowledge and understanding of international standards, and protection fundamental concepts and guiding principles and likely protection risks arising in the Wedweil
Ability to analyse quantitative and qualitative data and information from different sources
Experience working in complex and volatile contexts, including protracted displacement
Ability to manage teams in multiple office locations
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context related skills, knowledge and experience
Knowledge of South Sudan context and Refugee programming
Effective coordination with government, UN agencies, NGOs and communities.
Demonstrated leadership, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills and commitment to NRC’s values and Code of Conduct.
