Job Overview
The Assistant Child Care Provider supports daily classroom operations by assisting with child care routines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting children's participation in daily activities for children ages 0-4. This role works collaboratively with the Child Care Provider and Child Care Director to ensure the safety, well-being, and supervision of all children, while supporting compliance with Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) Child Care Regulation Minimum Standards.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Support and Classroom Environment

  • Assist in preparing and organizing materials and learning spaces for daily developmental activities led by the Child Care Provider.
  • Support children's engagement in age-appropriate early literacy and math activities, social-emotional learning, art, music, and play-based experiences.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of classroom materials, furniture, equipment, toys, and linens in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Assist in maintaining the organization of classroom supplies, equipment, and children's personal belongings.
  • Prepare bottles, formula, and snacks following safe food-handling practices.
  • Participate in child care meetings and special family events, as assigned.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job performance and meet state child care licensing standards.
Child Monitoring and Care
  • Assist in monitoring children in all settings to support their safety and well-being.
  • Provide routine care for children, including feeding, diapering, toileting, and supporting primary hygiene needs.
  • Support children during daily routines, such as transitions, rest time, and play activities.
  • Report any concerns about children to the Child Care Provider or Director.
  • Assist in observing and documenting developmental progress.
Safety
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques while performing job duties, including safe lifting and climbing practices.
  • Assist with child care and district emergency protocols.
  • Seek and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and food handling certifications.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities, required unless otherwise stated as preferred.           • High School diploma or GED
          • Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred, or will be required to obtain once hired.
          • Minimum of 6 months experience in an infant/child care setting

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
