Job Description
Your Career
Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Unit 42 Managed Services Engineering team. We are a lean, agile engineering unit responsible for building the "nervous system" of our operations: the Next-Gen Hunting Platform. This unified, AI-driven "Single Pane of Glass" empowers our global Managed Services teams to detect, investigate, and stop threats at scale. This is a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of Full Stack Engineering, Threat Intelligence, and Generative AI, building the tools that elite hunters use daily to protect customers.
A strong focus of the Software Engineer position will be on translating the complex operational workflows of threat hunters into robust, production-ready software. You will work closely with the Platform Architect to engineer mission-critical features, ranging from data visualization dashboards to automated response workflows, while leveraging cutting-edge AI (LLMs, RAG, Agents) to automate analysis and deliverable generation.
Your Impact
- Build the Platform: Engineer and ship features for our centralized hunting platform using modern stacks (Next.js, React, Python). You will take ownership of features from concept to deployment, ensuring the platform remains stable and responsive as we scale.
- Bridge the Gap: Collaborate directly with Threat Hunters and Researchers to understand their operational pain points (e.g., visualizing malware campaigns, automating triage) and translate them into technical requirements and shipping code.
- AI-Augmented Innovation: Implement advanced AI workflows using LLMs and Agents to automate routine analysis and enhance the capabilities of our Managed Services teams.
- Operational Excellence: Write clean, testable, and efficient code with a high bar for stability. You will help maintain the health of the platform, debugging complex issues across the frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Security Domain Expertise: 3+ years of hands-on experience in Security Research, Incident Response, Threat Hunting, or Threat Intelligence operations.
- Engineering Proficiency: 2+ years of software development experience.
- Education / Experience: BSc in Computer Science, equivalent knowledge, or equivalent military experience.
- Engineering Mindset: Experience building robust, scalable solutions and validating assumptions through testing rather than temporary scripts.
- Collaborative Drive: Ability to take ownership of execution and collaborate across global teams under the mentorship of technical leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Modern Web Stack: Experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, specifically within the React or Next.js ecosystems.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Experience with GCP (Google Cloud Platform) and containerization tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
- Palo Alto Networks Ecosystem: Hands-on experience with Cortex XDR or Cortex XSOAR.
- AI-Augmented Development: Experience utilizing AI/LLM tools like Gemini or Claude to accelerate coding workflows and solve complex problems.
