Build the foundations of a more sustainable future

At ERM, your early‑career experience won’t be spent on the sidelines. As a Consulting Senior Associate, Civil Engineer, you’ll play an active role in shaping real-world projects that support renewable energy, infrastructure resilience, and environmental remediation. Based in our Washington, DC office, Richmond, Virginia or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this role offers hands-on technical growth, exposure to complex engineering challenges, and the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across North America and globally—all while contributing to work that truly matters.

  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and project managers across disciplines and geographies.

What You’ll Bring

You’re curious, motivated, and ready to learn. You enjoy both technical problem-solving and working as part of a team, and you’re excited about gaining exposure to diverse projects and environments. You’re comfortable balancing independent work with collaboration and are open to travel and fieldwork as part of your professional development.

Required

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering (preferred). Or equivalent experience.

  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, scheduling, and construction management.
  • Exposure to consulting or construction-related project environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in projects on a global platform, in varied settings that require creative and practical engineering solutions.
  • Prepare site civil designs, including earthwork and site grading, access roads, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.
  • Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and contract documents.
  • Prepare application packages for land disturbance permits, construction stormwater permits, and related construction permits; support land use permit applications.
  • Use AutoCAD and GIS to develop engineering designs.
  • Conduct field investigations, construction oversight, and quality assurance activities.
  • Evaluate field data; perform calculations; and prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, schedules, and progress tracking reports.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers across site investigation, risk management, planning, design, and construction disciplines.
  • Work both independently and as part of global, multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Participate in a center-of-excellence engineering team to help develop innovative designs and oversee implementation.
