Specialist (Teacher Support), Examination Board at Aga Khan University Hospital

Introduction:

The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university; Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.

The Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) is the first private-sector university-led trans-provincial Board (awarding body) in Pakistan established through the Ordinance of the Government of Pakistan. The Board offers high-quality examinations for Secondary School (grades 9th and 10th - SSC) and Higher Secondary School (grades 11th and 12th - HSSC/ FSC) qualifications for public and private schools across Pakistan. The Board also offers a Middle School Programme (MSP) for grades 6th–8th students and its registered schools engage a globally accepted approach, Project-Based Learning (PBL) to implement the MSP. PBL is considered as a foundation of the AKU-EB MSP, helping schools foster a sense of purpose and leadership in young learners.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Specialist (Teacher Sucpport) in the Examination Board.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

• work with academic specialists and other trainers to develop high quality training material for various training activities for school teachers (primary school, middle school, SSC and HSSC) based on needs of schools
• develop materials for teachers to use in their teaching and instruct them how to use these materials effectively
• engage teachers in the development of effective materials for their classrooms.
• conduct teacher training sessions throughout the year in various cities/ villages of Pakistan and follow-up to determine impact
• compile and manage repository of created materials
• perform research
• drive innovation in teaching and teacher development practices
• work collaboratively on broader AKU-EB research projects with other academic departments in EB
• share, publish and present findings in local, national and international arenas
• encourage the participation of teachers in research
• assist in planning and conducting workshops for academic specialists, all of whom will give disciplinary specific workshops for teachers
• generate ideas to create projects for primary and middle school programs
• develop projects aligned to AKU-EB PSP/ MSP Framework.

Requirements:

You should have:

• Bachelors/master’s in science or other related fields
• minimum 2 to 3 years of teaching experience is essential
• teacher training experience preferably with adult learners is a plus
• ability to understand and contribute to EB’s vision
• strong communication skills in English and Urdu (both oral and written)
• willingness to travel domestically for work related assignments
• strong conceptual and analytical skills
• ability to work well in teams
• highly motivated and self-directed
• eagerness to learn new approaches, methods and practices
• passion for evidence-based research
