About the Role
ERM is a leading global sustainability consultancy, established over 50 years ago with the goal of helping the world’s leading organisations build a sustainable future. With over 8,000 people across offices worldwide and expertise spanning all areas of sustainability, we support clients to deliver meaningful change and long-term value.
People are at the heart of what ERM does. We are committed to the personal and professional development of our staff, with tailored development plans that enable individuals to grow their careers in line with their ambitions.
About the Low Carbon Solutions Team
ERM’s Low Carbon Solutions (LCS) team includes over 100 experts in sustainable energy, working across areas such as energy networks, smart systems, low carbon buildings, transport, hydrogen, fuels, chemicals, energy policy, sustainability assessment, and innovation.
As the urgency of the energy transition continues to grow, we are seeing increasing demand from organisations seeking to understand their role and respond effectively. Our team works at the forefront of this transition, advising network operators, governments, developers, investors and corporates on how to deliver and operate low carbon energy systems.
We offer a collegiate and collaborative working culture, a competitive salary, and the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of the energy transition. If you are driven by our goal to decarbonise the energy system and want to work with excellent like-minded people then a role at ERM within the LCS team could be for you.
Decarbonisation – Electricity Networks & Energy Systems
Energy networks — particularly electricity transmission and distribution — are critical to delivering Net Zero. Alongside this, energy systems thinking (spanning generation, networks, demand, and markets) is essential to ensure the system operates efficiently and reliably as it decarbonises.
Delivering an energy system that is fit to meet the challenges of decarbonisation will require innovative technology, imaginative business models and robust policymaking.
ERM supports clients including electricity network operators, system operators, regulators, policymakers, developers and investors to shape and deliver this transition. We are seeking individuals with strong expertise in electricity networks and markets to join our growing team.
Role and responsibilities
Consultants at ERM combine technical analysis with commercial insight to support clients in navigating the transition to low-carbon energy systems. In this role, you will contribute to a range of projects across energy networks, built environment, and smart energy systems —delivering robust analysis and clear, actionable advice.
This is an opportunity to contribute to meeting one of the key global challenges faced by society and to build a career in a leading global sustainability consultancy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting research into energy technologies, markets, and regulatory frameworks through structured analysis and engagement with industry stakeholders
- Undertaking quantitative analysis of energy systems and technologies, including development of techno-economic models.
- Using Python and other analytical packages to support data analysis and development of efficient, reproducible analysis
- Contributing to the delivery of client projects, including preparation of clear and well-structured reports, presentations, and briefing materials
- Building effective working relationships with clients and stakeholders, and supporting meetings and workshops
- Communicating complex technical findings in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in physical science, engineering, economics or another relevant discipline (Minimum 2.1)
- Strong interest in sustainability and low carbon energy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with complex datasets and draw clear conclusions
- Good communication, organisational, and time management skills
Advantageous, but not essential
- Experience in low carbon energy and/or consultancy
- Experience of software development
- Fluency in another European language
- First class undergraduate degree
We will be aiming for a start date in late September / early October 2026
