About the Role

ERM is seeking a motivated Consultant to join our team in the Netherlands with a focus on Environment, Health and Safety. This role is ideal for a technically strong professional who is passionate about driving change in both processes and behaviors, and who is committed to delivering high-quality solutions to our clients.

You will be part of ERM’s Safe and Sustainable Solutions (SSO) team in the Netherlands—a dynamic, highly international and growing group of professionals, supporting a wide portfolio of industrial clients. The team is recognized for its strong on-the-ground expertise, partnering closely with clients to deliver practical, solution-oriented support through operational projects. Working within SSO means being embedded in client environments, driving continuous improvement in safety, compliance, and sustainability performance, while collaborating with ERM’s broader network of technical experts across the region. This includes a team of peers in Belgium that together form SSO BeNe.

In your role you will be covering both Environmental and Health & Safety topics. With a strong preference for demonstrating health and safety knowledge (with a minimal base level of practical experience). Related to Health & Safety this would include topics such as risk assessments (incl. RI&E), machine safety, innovative safety, safety awareness etc. Aimed at conducting Health & Safety site audits independently or under supervision from an ERM subject matter expert. Related to environmental relevant topics, this would include permit compliance assessments, PGS storage analyses, advice related to SVHC, Seveso assessments and support to and collaborating with the permitting team of SSO. Aimed at supporting clients in compliance auditing, strategic advice to clients and permit readiness.

Key Responsibilities

You will be performing a mix of content-related, project management and client management roles. Aimed to contribute to the successful delivery of projects by supporting a variety of activities, including:

  • Supporting ERM lead auditors during audits and compliance assessments, conducted against technical standards.
  • Providing technical advice in audits and site assessments in relation to the use and storage of hazardous materials, work safety regulations, risk assessments etc.
  • Contributing to the development of permitting documentation, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and technical reports as part of permit requests.
  • Supporting the implementation of EHS requirements and opportunities into the clients developments and/or organization.
  • Preparing high-quality deliverables in collaboration and under the guidance of senior consultants and subject matter experts. Aimed at the delivery of multiple projects, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, quality and timelines.
  • Support in developing, building and maintaining strong client relationships through clear communication, quality, added value and professionalism.
  • Working collaboratively with ERM colleagues across teams and geographies.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation and effectively convey complex ideas. Demonstrating experience or adaptation with AI supported tools is a sought-for (not expected) pro.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and drive in a consulting or industry environment.
  • Analytical and communicative skills: you can analyze complex regulations and translate them into practical, understandable solutions for clients and teams.
  • Depending on your level of experience and ambition, the ability to manage priorities, focus, flexibility and contribute effectively within project teams.
  • Experience or ambition to manage projects and service delivery, in relation to alignment with scope, budget and timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Safety engineering, or a related discipline. A completed VCA-certificate, audit courses or completed MVK or HVK courses are absolute pros.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, either within a consulting environment or in an industry role with demonstrated EHS exposure.
  • Fluency in Dutch and English (written and spoken) on B2 or C1 level.
  • Solid business acumen, with the ability to understand client challenges, risks, and opportunities.
