The purpose of this role is to assist the Priesthood and Family Department in its purpose to help God’s children joyfully live the gospel of Jesus Christ. Reports to the director of policy and shares responsibility for Church policy and communication work. Projects are high profile writing projects that typically have a global audience and are mission-critical to the Church. Individual contributor role responsible for providing analysis, research, writing, and editing support for various Church products, including general conference, general conference leadership meetings, and executive communications, as well as providing the same type of support for the executive council as requested. Creates communications that help children, youth, adults, and families receive ordinances and keep covenants as they enter, progress along, or return to the covenant path.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboration, exploration, and analysis: Consults with critical partners to analyze and help create policy for the entire global Church, aligned with gospel principles, practices, and doctrine.

  • Participates in ad hoc committees and working groups assigned to research and make recommendations.

  • Content creation: Works with product managers and subject matter experts in the creation of letters, notices, documents, reports, handbooks, presentations, and executive communications.

  • Research: Provides policy and historical research recommendations, coordinating with the Correlation Research Division and Church History Department as needed. Writes reports, recommendations, and other materials as a result of such research.

  • Presentations: Regularly prepares and edits presentations for executive council meetings.

  • Assignments may include high profile writing projects that have a global audience. Work may require the ability to take on the role of lead writer or to act as a supporting writer. Work may also require the ability to work with project management on project definition and reporting. May be asked to act as a team lead and oversee the work of other writers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or related field and 8 years of professional experience. Masters degree preferred.

  • Sound understanding of Church organization, doctrine, policy, and practice.

  • Experience in articulating the vision and strategy of senior leadership, follows and responds to direction, and puts strategy into words and actions.

  • Ability to give polished presentations to executive leaders.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of a global Church audience and able to reach them through the written word.

  • Skill in editing best practices and an ability to provide constructive feedback in a professional way.

  • Experience collaborating across multiple divisions and departments.

  • Demonstrates organizational, analytical, research, prioritization, and planning skills, including setting and meeting deadlines.

  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements that need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment.
